Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has invited his four time challenger Dr Kizza Besigye among other former presidential candidate in the February 18 elections for his swearing in slated for May 12.
According to Ofwono Opondo the Uganda Media Centre’s executive director invitation cards have also been sent to Amama Mbabazi, Maureen Kyalya, Venansius Baryamureeba, Elton Joseph Mabirizi, Dr Abed Bwanika and Major General Benon Biraaro.
He said they will join the twelve heads of state and five prime ministers whom the government claims will attend the ceremony.
Last month, the government said it had sent out invitations to the United States of America President Barrack Obama and the UK Prime Minister David Cameron.
It is not yet clear whether Obama who of recent has been reported cristising Africa’s long serving leaders will attend the function.
President Museveni who has been in power for 30 years was on February 20 declared winner of the 2016 presidential with more than 60 per cent of the votes cast against his closet challenger Dr Besigye who got 35 percent.
It is not yet clear whether Besigye who doesn’t recognise Museveni as the winner of 2016 elections will surely honour the invitation.
