Uganda People’s Congress party president, Jimmy Akena, has described the late party vice president, Patrick Mwondha, as a great congressman.

Mwondha died at Mulago Cancer Institute on Tuesday.

In his eulogy, Akena said the party and the country had lost a great congressman.

“We lost someone of great wisdom and courage,” Akena said while addressing press at the party headquarters in Kampala Thursday.

Mwondha, a former minister in Dr Apollo Milton Obote’s government from 1980 to 1985, died at the Uganda Heart Institute, Mulago.

“Throughout his political career, he [Mwondha] represented an image of the party of ideas,” Akena said.

A vigil was held at Mwondha’s house in Kanyanya outside Kampala.

His requiem service was held today at All saints’ cathedral Nakaseero at 10am.

A public viewing of the body at the party Headquarters, Uganda House from 1pm to 3pm, followed.

Mwondha will be buried on Friday in Ntanda, Bugiri District at midday.
