In her petition, Kamuli District chairperson Salaamu argued that the documents from Busoga University, which Ms Rehema Watongla used to get nominated, were obtained fraudulently.
Ms Hajati Rehema Watongola, who was the NRM candidate, beat Ms Musumba of FDC to the seat, polling 8,175 votes against Ms Musumba’s 6,702 votes.
Watongola presented a Uganda Certificate of Education from Town Hall in Jinja, diploma and degree certificates in Public Administration and Management from the university.
However, Musumba contested the validity of the qualifications.
On Tuesday, Justice Godfrey Namundi kicked Watongola out of parliament, asked her to pay damages to Musumba and appeal her case if she so wishes.
Engola thrown out
On the same day, Lira High Court threw state minister for defense, Col Charles Okello Engola out of Parliament over academic papers.
Lady Justice Jessica Naiga faulted Engola [the Oyam North Constituency NRM MP] for changing names on his papers without swearing an affidavit invalidated them.
Charles Peter Okelo Engola appears on the minister’s curriculum vitae yet he used Charles Peter Okello Engola in the February 2016 election campaigns only to present himself to the Electoral Commission as Charles Okello Macodwogo.
His main challenger Crispus Ayena Odongo successfully challenged his election on ground that a certificate from Air Defense College, Nakasongola that was presented prior to his nomination was invalid because the institution is not listed among institutions gazetted by Uganda National Council for higher education
Engola who defeated Chrispus Ayena, now stands to lose his slot as state minister for Defence.
So far, about 10 NRM MPs have lost their positions in Parliament.
FDC’s Ekanya, Musumba win
In the morning, Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] Kamuli District chairperson Salaamu Musumba won the election petition in which she ran to court seeking to annul the election of Hajati Rehema Watongola as MP of the newly created Kamuli Municipality.
In the afternoon, another FDC official Geoffrey Ekanya won the election petition against the Tororo county Member of Parliament Annet Okwenye.
Court found out that votes from two villages were not counted as Ekanya alleged in his petition hence faulting Okwenye on election rigging leading to her nullification as MP.
