2 dead, 14 injured in Masaka accident


Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 14 injured following a motor accident involving five vehicles at Kalandazzi near Mitalamaria catholic parish along Kampala-Masaka road.

The accident is said to have happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

According to an eyewitness, the accident occurred when a Canter that was carrying bananas from Masaka heading to Kampala collided head-on with a sand truck that was heading to Lwera sand mine in Kalungu district.

The driver of another sand truck lost control, veered off the road and overturned.

The two other vehicles subsequently crashed into the accident due failed brakes.

The officer in charge of traffic police at Buwama police station Benard Wabwire, identified the deceased as Yusuf Kizito and Jafar Ssemugera, all truck drivers and residents of Bulenga.

The injured were rushed to Gombe and Nkozi hospitals for treatment.
