Police has arrested 17 people following a clash between supporters of Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, Maj Kahinda Otafiire and Capt Donozio Kahonda.
The fight took place on Tuesday when Otafiire’s supporters blocked a Kahonda’s convoy as they entered Kashenshero town council in Kashenshero sub county Mitooma district.
About 25 people are said to have been injured in the clashes including two policemen.
The injured were rushed to supporters Kashenshero health centre for treatment.
Otafiire lost the NRM primaries to Capt Kahonda, who is now the NRM flagbearer for Ruhinda county parliamentary seat.
The district police commander, Michael Sabila, told NTV 17 people had been arrested as a result of “acts that are against the law”.
Sabila urged supporters of different candidates to stay away from opponents’ rallies.
Last month, six supporters of Otafiire were on injured in a fight with those of Mitooma District Woman MP Jovah Kamateeka and Benon Karyaija, the LC5 chairman.
