Another accident in Mpigi district has left 16 people admitted with serious injuries just a day after two people were reported dead and six seriously injured following a road accident.
The accident which occurred Sunday morning at Buyaaya village near Mbizzinya Market along Kampala – Masaka highway involved 4 vehicles, including two commuter taxis and a lorry.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of speeding taxi was trying to overtake another taxi in a sharp corner along the road, only to knock a parked Congo-bound cargo trailer.
The trailer had reportedly been parked after it developed a mechanical fault.
Phillip Mukasa, the Katonga region police spokesman said the accident was by reckless driving, negligence, indiscipline and over speeding of the taxi drivers.
More than 12 people have been reported dead and several others injured in this month’s road accidents.
