A total of 14,664 students registered for UBTEB May/June 2016 Examinations at 129 Examination centres across the whole Country.
The Board started registration of candidates for May/June 2016 examinations series on 29th February 2016 and ended on 22nd April 2016.
The number of candidates registered for May/June 2016 has increased from 7,686 candidates of May/June 2015 examination series to 14,664 candidates of May/June 2016 examination series therefore representing a 91% increase.
The conduct of examinations for May/June 2016 will take a period of three weeks beginning with briefing of all candidates on 27th May 2016 and end on 16th June 2016.
The highest number of 7,867 candidates registered for Business Diploma and Certificate progammes followed by 5,082 candidates who registered for Technical Diploma and Higher Diploma programmes and 1,716 candidates registered for specialized Academic programmes including Fisheries, Meteorology, Wild life and Lands and Survey.
The Examinations to be conducted shall have both theory and practical papers as the Board conducts Competence Based examinations that follow Uganda Vocational Qualifications Framework. This mode of assessment ensures that UTEB students graduate with requisite hands on skills needed in the Labour market.
The Board has deployed over 500 personnel who are charged with the responsibility of ensuring surveillance and security of examinations at different examinations centres.
These include reconnoiters, Area Coordinators, examination supervisors, UBTEB staff and Uganda police whose role is to ensure that the conduct of examinations is in accordance with the UBTEB rules on the conduct of examinations.
The Board appeals to all Heads of Centres to observe examination regulations for the successful conduct of examinations. Candidates are encouraged to desist from any form of malpractice.
UBTEB to issue 8000 certificates
Te Board has received the first batch of certificates for candidates who successfully completed in 2012. The Board is set to receive additional 12,000 certificates by the end of this year.
The certificates received are for the following programmes and years of registration; Technical craft 2012 and Business, Technical and Specialised programmes 2013.
New Executive Secretary appointed
The Board on April 13th, 2016 appointed Mr. Onesmus Oyesigye, CPA as a substantive Executive Secretary to replace the former Executive Secretary Mr. Twesigye John Ntamuhiira who resigned in June 2015 for elective politics.
Oyesigye has been Acting Executive Secretary since June 2015.
41 New institutions inspected for accreditation
The Board inspected a total of 41 business and technical training institutions in the country between 9th-13 May 2016.
The Board currently has 375 accredited institutions as UBTEB examination centres. The increase in vocational institutions is in response to Government’s commitment to promote technical and vocational education for skills development.
