1,300 students strike over ban on miniskirts, dismissed

Management of Aduku Secondary School in Apac District on Sunday sent home more than 1,300 following a strike over miniskirts and tight trousers.

The violent strike reportedly led to loss of property worth Sh100 million by the Anglican founded mixed “O” and “A” level boarding school.

The Saturday night strike was reportedly sparked off by school authority’s ban on wearing of miniskirts and tight trousers.

Last week, the school administration is said to have confiscated all miniskirts and tight trousers, a move which reportedly annoyed the students.

Patrick Okwir, the school headmaster, said that last term, they gave letters to parents warning that miniskirts and tight trousers would not be allowed in school.

This was after it was reported that girls were cutting short their long skirts while boys were also reducing the size of their trousers making them tight.
