Residents of Kikiro village, Kasengejje Zone, in Wakiso District are still in shock after fire on Wednesday burnt to death a 12-year-old girl.
Esther Naluyima was burnt into ashes at around 8:00pm according to according to police.
In a case reported at Central Polices Station in Kampala, the landlady of the house the deceased was living in with her mother said by the time they learnt of the fire, it was too late to save her life.
The landlady, Annet Nakayi said on the fateful night, the deceased’s mother, Sofia Nabukenya was not in the house.
Nakayi said the fire also destroyed property worth millions and asked the police to investigate the cause since it was suspicious.
“The fire has left us speechless. It has killed a jolly and a disciplined girl. We request the police to investigate the cause. We must know what caused it,” Nakayi said.
Naluyima’s body was taken to Mulago Hospital for postmortem and later handed over to relatives for burial.
She was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kayege village, Semuto town, in Nakaseke District.
According to the case file SD Ref 60/08/09/2016, a copy of which this reporter saw at Central Police Station (CPS), the cause of the fire was yet to be known.
The police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, said he needed to gather details before he could speak to the media.
