The NRM’s 2016 Presidential Flag bearer for the 2016 General Elections, Candidate Yoweri Museveni, yesterday started his campaign trail in the Lango Sub-Region in Northern Uganda with a call to the people of the area to continue supporting NRM for the development of the country.
“Support the old man with a hat,” he told thousands of supporters who turned up at Amolatar Boma ground in Amolatar district to express their solidarity.
Over 1000 former supporters of UPC and FDC crossed over to NRM and were introduced to the Chairman of NRM, President Museveni, by the Vice Chairman of NRM for Northern, Hon. Sam Engola.
Candidate Museveni told the ululating crowd that people like Besigye say that he (Besigye) wants change.
Mr. Museveni wondering where Besigye wants Uganda to go.
“Now if you say you want change, where do you want us to go? Backwards?” he asked. Nooo…the huge crowd chorused.
Mr. Museveni added that others like Mbabazi say ‘move forward’.
Candidate Museveni said that Uganda has been moving forward all the time and wondered where people like Mbabazi have been when the country is progressing.
He cited the tax collection that was only Shs.5 billion in 1986 and is today Shs.13,000 billion.
The NRM Chairman also advised supporters to tell anybody who will say ‘this is not done’ to give us a break and inform such a person of NRM’s method of work that emphasizes prioritization.
Candidate Museveni, therefore, asked the people of Lango Sub-Region to continue supporting NRM in order to transform our societies.
He pledged to tarmac the road from Amolatar to Dokolo; increase the number of ferries that ply from Lwampanga in Nakasongola district to Namasale in Amolatar district.
Mr. Museveni promised, as government’s policy, to provide the 6 Sub-Counties in Amolatar district with senior secondary schools and each Parish with a primary school.
He told the cheering crowd that it is the first time in the last 500 years for Uganda to attain total peace adding that this positive development has been achieved from the strength of NRM that, he said, comes from respecting everybody without discrimination.
He further encouraged the people to embark on wealth creation at household level to banish poverty.
Today, Wednesday, Museveni will be in Dokolo and Lira districts.
