Over 100 NRM members in Nyakinengo parish Nyakagyeme sub county Rukungiri districts have crossed from the ruling party to join opposition Forum for Democratic Change.
The supporters announced they were throwing their weight behind the FDC candidate, Fred Turyamuhweza, who is running for Member of Parliament in Rujumbura country.
The members who met the politician yesterday at Rugando Health Centre II pledged their support to and challenged him to devise means of protecting his votes given that rigging has become the order of the day.
Some members who talked to our reporter expressed their disappointment at the just concluded NRM primaries and felt there was no fairness prompting them to support change.
Turyamuhweza appreciated the people of Nyakinengo for the brave gesture they have exhibited to decide that the current Member of Parliament, Jim Muhwezi, also minister for Information and National Guidance, should rest and let others lead.
He also expressed his happiness at people to have realized the need for change.
He said he has been fighting poor governance since 2001 and he said he is not fighting Muhwezi as a person.
Jim won the NRM flag in the concluded NRM primaries.

Turyamuhweza requested the people of Rujumbura to trust him and send him to parliament so that he can also contribute to the development of the area.
He informed the people that any development to take place in a community must be decided by the natives of the area with good and trusted leadership.
He also said that when this leadership is changed there will be no more empty promises to the electorates and that the leaders will respect the voters.
On the same function, Betty Muzanira who is contesting for the Rukungiri district Woman Member of Parliament asked the people of Nyakinengo to love their country as parents love their children and vote for people who are willing to work for them.
