At least 10 medical interns in Mbale District in Eastern Uganda have been arrested over strike.
They are among the Medical trainees in government owned hospitals across the country including Mulago National Referral Hoapital who have gone on strike over pay.
The interns are on strike over government proposal to scrap their allowance.
In Mbarara, police was engaged in running battles with the Medical interns who tried to storm the RDC’s office demanding for answers.
The strike has paralysed business in most government hospitals.
According to police in Mbale, those arrested were inciting their colleagues to strike.
Last week, ministry of education proposed that allowance for private students be scrapped and subject government sponsored students to a two year bonding period after completion of internship in a bid to reduce the financial burden on government and curb the high brain drain in medical practice.
