A Friday morning bus accident at Jandira village located between River Katonga and Kayabwe town along the Kampala – Masaka Highway has left one person dead and four others seriously injured, according to authorities.
Fabian Betubiza, the officer in charge of traffic police and road safety in Katonga region said the accident occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning when a Jaguar bus driver lost control in a corner, veered off the road and rammed into the gate of a one Aisha Nakirijja’s house.
The bus was reportedly from Kigali Rwanda heading to Kampala.
Betubiza attributed the cause of the accident to overspending.
Both the deceased and injured people were taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala for post-mortem and treatment respectively.
Masaka road accidents have claimed over 140 people in the past four months and injured several.
More than 800 drivers have been arrested and face prosecution for reckless driving and lack of proper driving documents since Operation Fika Salama was launched by Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in conjunction with traffic police a month ago.
