A member of Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura’s force is reported dead after consuming glasses of alcohol in a local gin (waragi) drinking competition.
The incident happened last month in Kanungu town council during a competition organized by a town butcher.
Each participant, according to the source, was asked to drink seven glasses of waragi.
After consuming the seven glasses, one of the competitors identified as Frank Kambarekye, fell down unconscious.
He was rushed to Katate health center IV in Kanungu town where he was pronounced dead afterwards.
Kambarekye, 30, was a resident of Burondo in the southern division of Kanungu town.
Six others including two police officers and one woman were also admitted at Katate health center in an equally bad shape.
The officers who took part in the competition are; Corporal Joseph Kamugisha and detective Arinaitwe Kapaka.
They are attached to Kanungu Central Police Station.
Another resident identified as Bonde and unidentified woman were also part of the race.
Some are still receiving treatment at the health center while others escaped after gaining consciousness.
