Bullets were fired on Thursday in Apac Town during a confrontation betweem Maruzi County MP, Maxwell Akora, and the security.
Akora claims security commanded by Emmanuel Peace Opollo assaulted him while returning from Akororo Sub-county to vote.
According to Daily Monitor, Akora’s convoy of three vehicles was blocked by Opollo who accused him of campaigning for Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye.
“At this point, my supporters jumped off the vehicle to force Mr Opollo to allow us pass but he (Opollo) ran back to his vehicle, pulled an AK47 rifle and started shooting in the air- to intimidate us,” Akora told the newspaper.
He added: “I am aware they accusing me of campaigning for Dr Kizza Besigye yet for me I’m only pursuing my votes. These people are panicking that they are losing the presidential election to Besigye.”
Lt George Musinguzi, the 5th Division army spokesperson, blamed the MP for resisting arrest “because he was found bribing voters”.
Akora [UPC] is running against NRM’s Eddy Ococ.
